According to a post over at the Sony support website, unlocking the bootloader on the just released Xperia Z1 will break camera functionality on the device.

Warning! At the moment, unlocking the Xperia™ Z1 boot loader will stop the camera functionality.
The post also lists a number of devices not affected by the issue on certain releases.
So for now at least, if you value the use of your fancy 20.7-megapixel Exmor RS camera, better wait for a fix. Sony has a great track record supporting unlocked devices, so we expect this glitch to be pretty high on their list of things to be taken care of.

AndroidCentral, who first reported the issue has also said they have contacted Sony for any news on the progress of an update.
The phone which was launched two weeks ago at the IFA Berlin conference and images of which were leaked by Chinese sources almost a week before the show, features a quad-core Snapdragon 800 CPU, a 5-inch display, 2GB RAM and the very impressive 20 Mpx camera.
